Friday, April 7, 2023, as part of the commemoration of the 220th anniversary of the death of Toussaint Louverture, the city of Cap-Haitien paid tribute to a great man who marked the history of the world.

On April 7, 1803, 220 years ago, died at Fort de Joux in Doubs (Savoie, France) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-12415-haiti-politic-moving-tribute-of-president-martelly-to-toussaint-louverture.html Toussaint Louverture.

The City of Cap-Haitien is proud to pay a vibrant tribute to this great visionary and defender of freedom and the members of the Municipal Commission with other authorities of the North Department, laid a wreath of flowers at the foot of the Toussaint Louverture monument on Place Bréda in Haut du Cap.

Also as part of the 220th anniversary of the death of Toussaint Louverture, other activities will be carried out until April 8, 2023 by other private and public institutions in the city.

Let's remember that born slave on May 20, 1743 on the Bréda plantation in Haut-du-Cap, Toussaint Breda, who became Toussaint Louverture, was the precursor of Haitian independence. He was the trigger for the first abolition of slavery and was imprisoned by order of Napoleon Bonaparte in Fort de Joux.
