iciHaiti - Social : The US Coast Guard repatriated 50 Haitians
Friday, March 3rd, 2023, the crew of the United States Coast Guard cutter Robert Yered repatriated 50 Haitians to Haiti, following an interception earlier this week off the coast of Florida, after the "Lake Worth Inlet" alerted the Miami sector to the presence of a dangerously overloaded suspect boat approximately 2 miles off "Lake Worth Inlet".

There were 52 Haitian men, women and children and 2 Bahamians on board.

A Haitian woman was evacuated to a hospital with symptoms of abdominal pain. Another woman died on Wednesday March 1st.

The two Bahamians were repatriated to the Bahamas on Wednesday.

"Illegal migration to the United States by sea is dangerous and even deadly," said Coast Guard District Seven Petty Officer 1st Class Nicole J. Groll.

Since October 1, 2022 (start of the exercise ending September 30), Coast Guard crews have intercepted 3,567 Haitian migrants against:

7,175 Haitian migrants in fiscal year 2022
1,527 Haitian migrants in fiscal year 2021
418 Haitian migrants in fiscal year 2020
932 Haitian migrants in fiscal year 2019
609 Haitian migrants in fiscal year 2018
419 Haitian migrants in fiscal year 2017

Note that once aboard a Coast Guard vessel, all migrants receive food, water, shelter and basic medical care.
