The Embassy of Haiti in Canada pays tribute to those who, because of their respective journeys and the contribution they have made to the advancement of Haitian communities in the different provinces of Canada.

Tribute to Dr. Yvette Bonny:
Dr. Yvette Bonny is a retired pediatrician and hematologist, honorary professor at the University of Montreal. She studied medicine in Haiti and France before immigrating to Canada in 1962. She joined the Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital team as a pediatric hematologist in 1969.

In 1980, she performed the first bone marrow transplant in children in Quebec. For more than 35 years, this distinguished pediatrician-hematologist has cared for children suffering from sickle cell anemia, cancer and leukemia, applying an approach based on compassion and humor in her therapies.

Dr. Yvette Bonny is a living legend in the Haitian community in Montreal. Retirement allows him to become even more actively involved in community and social activities. She is a member of the Association of Parents and Children with Leukemia and Cancer (LEUCAN), and a member of the Board of Directors of the Kouzin-Kouzine Volunteer Mutual Assistance, based in Montreal.

Dr. Bonny has received numerous awards and honours. She was notably honored as a Member of the Order of Canada and Knight of the Order of Quebec.
