Tribute to Mrs. Marie Laura Raphaël Alexis :
Born in Jérémie, Mrs. Marie Laura Raphael Alexis arrived in Canada with her family in 1999. She first lived in Ottawa until 2003. She then moved to Edmonton, Alberta, where she still lives.

A social worker by training, Ms. Raphaël Alexis has been volunteering for 19 years. Upon her arrival in Edmonton, she began to work tirelessly for the advancement, development and good representation of her community. She thus promoted Haitian culture by organizing socio-cultural activities, then she worked in the accompaniment of Haitians newly arrived in Edmonton. Its purpose was to ensure the access of these compatriots to resources provided by the province to facilitate their settlement in the province.

In 2010, Mrs. Marie Laura Raphaël Alexis and three other members of the community founded the Haitian Organization of Edmonton (OHE), whose mission is to meet the growing needs of the community and the challenges it faces.
