iciHaiti - Boat People : 114 Haitian migrants arrive on an overloaded small sailboat in the Florida Keys
114 Haitian migrants, including a dozen children, aboard an overloaded small sailboat in poor condition, after 9 days of travel, made landfall in the Florida Keys early Thursday, February 9, said the US Border Patrol.

The patrol and a large law enforcement presence responded quickly to the Tavernier site, south of Key Largo to assist the migrants, said Chief Patrol Officer Walter N. Slosar.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed an executive order in early January that activated the Florida National Guard and directed "state law enforcement agencies and other state agencies to provide resources in support of local governments responding to the alarming influx of migrants landing in the Florida Keys" and would also provide more support to efforts to prevent further landings of migrants on Florida shores.

"The burden of the Biden administration’s failure falls on local law enforcement who lack the resources to deal with the crisis," Governor DeSantis said in a statement "That is why I am activating the National Guard and directing state resources to help alleviate the strain on local resources."
