iciHaiti - Tourism : Towards the creation of a fund for the strengthening of the tourist site of Labadee
Engineer Rosemond Pradel, Minister of Public Works, accompanied by Michel Patrick Boisvert Minister of Finance and Luz Kurta Cassandra François Minister of Tourism, participated Thursday, January 26, 2023, in the Extraordinary General Assembly of the Board of Directors of the Company d'Opération du Quai de Labadee (COP), a Public limited company, mixed based in Cap-Haitien, made up of representatives of the Haitian government (Boisvert is Chairman of the Board) and those of the company in charge of operating the site.

The discussions focused on the creation of a fund intended for the realization of a set of projects which aim, among other things:

- Strengthening the Labadie tourist site;
- To the protection of the environment;
- To improve the socio-economic conditions of the population of the north.

This fund will be fed by the two main partners, namely, the Haitian State and the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line Company.

Minister Pradel, who is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Labadee site, welcomed this initiative and said that he hoped that this fund would not only contribute to improving the economic situation of the population of the region but also that it would contribute to strengthening and improving the area's infrastructure.

In this sense, the Minister of Public Works suggested that the road that connects the city of Cap Haitien and the North Band be constantly monitored and always maintained in order to prevent it from deteriorating at the risk of spending a lot of money for major repairs and jeopardize the economic growth of the area. He stressed that the project will have a positive impact on the environment, hence the need, according to him, to involve the Ministry of the Environment, which will have a leading role to play in the realization of this project.

In addition, on Friday January 27, the Minister of Tourism, the Regional Director of Northern Tourism, Ms. Marie Louise Trott, the Director of Investments of the Ministry of Tourism, Jéliel Antoine Darius and Ms. Sinedie Saintil Dupuy, executive at the Northern Tourism Office, met the team of the Organization for the Management of the Destination North of Haiti (OGDNH)

The aim was to follow up on the various tourism projects in progress such as: the resumption of the inventory of the classification of accommodation establishments, the collection and regular analysis of statistical data for the department, the creation and operation of tourist circuits in the North and North East, the completion of satisfaction surveys to improve the tourist offer and the operationalization of tourist kiosks in Ouanaminthe and Milot jointly by the two entities.
