iciHaiti - Social : The DR repatriated 143,333 Haitians in 2022
The Directorate General of Migration (DGM) repatriated this year 143,333 Haitians arrested during migration control operations in the National District, Greater Santo Domingo and in towns and villages of the 31 provinces of the Dominican territory. According to statistics from the institution, it was in November 2022 that the largest number of illegal Haitians were repatriated, with 24,894 cases in 1 month.

The migration agents were assisted by the military as well as the national police.

Monthly breakdown of Haitian repatriations:

January 2022: 7,158 Haitians
February: 7,940
March: 8,466
April: 7,447
May: 8,407
June: 9,176
July: 9,170
August: 11,506
September: 11,943
October: 20.115
November: 24,894
December: 17.111 (December 1 to 27)

After their arrest, foreigners (Haitians in more than 99% of cases) are transferred to administrative detention centers in Dajabón, Elías Pineapple or Haina for verification of their migratory status (purification) before repatriation.

Venancio Alcántara Director of the DGM, specified "These operations are carried out in compliance with the law "[...] The exclusions from territory have increased, as well as the humanitarian treatment of the detainees" adding "the control operations have not ceased and will not stop, in accordance with the law, migration standards, respect for human rights and international agreements."
