iciHaiti - Switzerland : Donation of 3 tons of equipment to DINEPA for the production of chlorinated products
The Embassy of Switzerland in Haiti this week handed over approximately 3 tons of material to the National Directorate of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DINEPA) as part of the fight against cholera in Haiti.

These include 17 electrolysers and water tanks that will allow DINEPA to make chlorinated drinking water accessible in areas where the institution's hydraulic infrastructure is lacking.

DINEPA, which imported between 300 and 500 tonnes of chlorine per year, is able to produce chlorine to make the water drinkable.

Every 2.5 hours, a chlorinator can produce 2,600 gallons of chlorine. Water tanks can store between 3 thousand and 5 thousand gallons of water. Essential equipment since DINEPA recognizes that DINEPA's biggest problem was in the availability of inputs (chlorinated products). Every year, DINEPA had to import between 300 and 500 tons, now DINEPA will be able to produce chlorine in order to purify water for rapid distribution and fight against waterborne diseases such as cholera.

Guyto Edouard, praised the solidarity of the Swiss people towards the Haitian people and also recalled the work of rehabilitation of drinking water supply systems carried out by DINEPA with the support of Switzerland through the REGLEAU program in the South, the Nippes and the Southeast.

Should be noted that Switzerland is the first country to respond to the call of the Haitian Government in the fight against the spread of cholera in the country which has already caused nearly 200 deaths since the goal of the epidemic in early October 2022 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-38214-haiti-cholera-daily-bulletin-47.html
