iciHaiti - Assassination of Dessalines : Message from the Town Hall of Cap-Haitien
As part of the 216th anniversary of the assassination of the Father of the Nation, Emperor Jacques 1er (Jean-Jacques Dessalines September 20, 1758 - October 17, 1806), the town hall of Cap-Haitien has delivered a message that we invite you to read and share.

Message from the City Council :
"Today marks 216 years since the Father of the Nation, Emperor Jean Jacques Dessalines, was assassinated at Pont Rouge. After all the sacrifices and all the fights he led to give us independence.

The winds of division, ambition and corruption blowing through the country killed the dreams of the Haitian people when they plotted to assassinate the Father of the Nation.

216 years later, it's as if we were at the same crossroads. Division, corruption mixed with social injustice is ruining the country. The dream of Father Dessalines who wanted to see a society where everyone has the same opportunities, starting with those who live in the communal sections to reach those who live in the city; This dream can't die !

For the Dessalines to succeed in giving us independence, the commander-in-chief of the indigenous army, gathered all the children of the country to break the chains of slavery.

Dessalines broke the chains of slavery. We, in agreement with social justice and dialogue, have decided to break the chains that bind the Haitian people to poverty. Chains that prevent us from taking the path of true development.

Today, the revolution for progress, social justice and the change we need must take place in agreement, dialogue and participation. It must begin to be realized from the communal sections towards the cities.

At the crossroads where we are, on October 17, we commemorate the assassination of the Emperor. Let's show that we are big and strong when we all work together for social justice for all children in the country.

Let's join hands and promise to establish a Haiti that has justice for all.

Thank you Dessaline! Long live Haiti! Long live Cap ! »
