iciHaiti - Insecurity : The Bahamas «could» join a multinational rapid intervention force
Foreign Minister Fred Michell in an audio message said the Bahamas could be invited to join a United Nations multinational rapid-response force to combat insecurity and gangs in Haiti https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-37903-haiti-flash-the-un-security-council-decides-today-on-the-aid-to-be-provided-to-haiti.html

Mitchell clarified that his country is bound to consider any invitation from the UN to be part of a collaborative force, due to Haiti's proximity, impact and relationship with the Bahamas.

"It has to be in the context of CARICOM and in the context of the UN Security Council resolution, or a resolution from the Organization of American States. This is not something that we would enter into alone," Mitchell stressed adding that before making a final decision, among other things, it will be necessary to determine whether or not the Bahamas can afford to become involved in the political instability in Haiti.

Furthermore, it is unclear to what extent the other members of the UN Security Council meeting on Monday 17 October will support such a decision, whether China or Russia would veto the proposal, or whether the current draft resolution could change significantly before being resubmitted by the United States.
