As part of the commemoration of the 216th anniversary of the assassination of Jean-Jacques Dessalines (October 17, 1806), and in accordance with the decree of May 23, 1989 determining, apart from National holidays, more precisely the legal holidays, the Primature informs the population in general, and particularly the agents of the public and private sectors that the Public administration, the commerce, the industry and the schools will be unemployed on October 17, 2022 throughout the national territory.

Jean-Jacques Dessalines, father of Haitian independence and Emperor of Haiti under the name of Jacques I since 1804, was assassinated on October 17, 1806 in Pont-Rouge, north of Port-au-Prince, in following a plot organized by some of his generals including : Alexandre Pétion, Jean-Pierre Boyer, André Rigaud and Bruno Blanchet who served as intermediaries between all without forgetting Henri Christophe who was in the North of the country.
