iciHaiti - politic : The European Parliament adopts 3 resolutions on Haiti

Parliament strongly condemns the acts of violence perpetrated by approximately 200 gangs in Haiti. Some would maintain links with State actors, politicians and business leaders, whose power has increased considerably since the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse in July 2021 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-34162-haiti-flash-president-jovenel-moise-assassinated-by-mercenaries-official-updated-7am-+-video.html .

Parliament demands an immediate end to gang violence and crime and the bringing to justice of those responsible in fair trials, as well as improved control of illegal weapons and the establishment of social programs, health and education in the country.

The deputies want all stakeholders in Haiti to find a lasting, consensual and time-bound solution to allow the holding of fair legislative and presidential elections. Haitian authorities must ensure better governance at all levels of State and society.

Finally, Parliament encourages the EU and international financial institutions to increase their contributions to financial aid for Haiti.

The resolution was adopted by a show of hands.
