iciHaiti - Cuba : 141 Haitian migrants stranded on the south coast
On Friday, Cuban authorities announced that they had rescued 141 Haitian migrants (including men, 22 children and pregnant women) fleeing the misery and violence of their country, who had washed up on the beach of La Tatagua, in the central Province of Cienfuegos (south coast of Cuba).

Leaving 8 days earlier from the island of La Gonâve, the Haitians said they had hoped to reach Miami but were diverted by a strong sea current and strong winds.

The Haitians received medical aid, food and were driven with dignity to a camp while waiting for their repatriation to Haiti.

Due to sea currents and strong winds, some boats smuggling Haitian migrants seeking to reach the United States find themselves diverted and stranded on the Cuban coast.

Although not all arrivals are officially reported, authorities in Havana nevertheless recognize a strong increase in arrivals of illegal Haitians in recent months.
