The Dominican Government has informed that it will buy back private land located on the northern fringe of the dividing line between the Dominican Republic and Haiti, to allow the construction of the double technological fence of territorial separation, officially announced in February 2021 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-33130-haiti-flash-president-abinader-announces-the-construction-of-a-double-fence-at-the-border.html by President Luis Abinader.

The announcement was made by a Commission of the Ministry of Defense (MIDE) accompanied by Colonel Joaquincito Bocio Familia, Legal Consultant of MIDE, and Colonel Juan Adames Almonte, Coordinator of the border operations base in Dajabón, during the a meeting with the owners who will be evicted in the municipalities of Loma de Cabrera, Restauracion and Dajabón, as a first step.

Colonel Bocio explained that at a future meeting the Commission will meet to negotiate the evaluation of the purchase of land, houses, warehouses and others... located in an area of ​​200 meters from the border demarcation line.

During the meeting, the authorities did not provide further details on the total area that will need to be acquired for the construction of this double separation fence with Haiti, which will begin construction this year. Double fence which will include motion sensors, face recognition and night vision cameras, radars and thermal detectors in addition to condition monitoring cameras and long range drones.
