iciHaiti - Cinema : The movie «Freda» by Gessica Généus in competition at OSCARS 2022
Jean Emmanuel Jacquet the Minister of Culture salutes the qualification of the feature film "Freda" by the Haitian director and actress Gessica Géneus, at the 94th Academy Awards which will take place on March 27, 2022 in Hollywood (Los Angeles, California).

Produced by Ayizan Prod from Haiti, Sanosi Prod (France) and Merveille Prod (Benin), the film tells the story of three women, who decided to leave a disadvantaged town in the grip of growing insecurity, after a traumatic event.

"Fread is first and foremost the name of a young woman in search of emancipation. From the small grocery store her mother runs, Freda is confronted with this ambient anger as a man is gunned down on her doorstep. The eruption of physical death cannot obscure more intimate demons, and the film will never cease to be crossed by the attempts of its main protagonist to reveal deeply buried traumas."

"FREDA" is the only film that was shot entirely in 2020 in Haiti

"The notoriety of this cinematographic work and of its director and the warm reception of the international press and the public make this film the pride of Haiti and we are infinitely honored to be represented by this film" underlines Minister Jacquet

Note that "Freda has been widely acclaimed by critics and has obtained several distinctions, including the Special Mention of the François Chalais Prize at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-34255-icihaiti-cinemathe-haitian-film-fredahonored-at-the-2021-canne-festival.html ; the "Discovery Award for Best Work" and the "Fiction Feature Film Audience Award" at the Namur International Francophone Film Festival (Belgium) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-34977-haiti-news-zapping.html ; Fespaco Silver Standard and Best Sound Award at the 27th Pan-African Film and Television Festival in Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso).
