ici-Haiti - Quartier-Morin : More than $2MM losses following the looting and the burning of Valerio Canez

Following the incidents of Friday July 23 in Quartier-Morin (Cap-Haitien) on the sidelines of the funeral of President Jovenel Moïse https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-34310-haiti-flash-the-us-and-un-delegations-hastily-leave-the-funeral.html in particular at the Valerio Canez store where the population, accompanied by heavily armed men, looted (store and depot) and set fire to the premises causing significant damage, it's time to take stock.

René Max Auguste, the store manager estimates that the losses and damages exceed 2 million US dollars. He laments the lack of police intervention to protect the store, stressing that this is a bad signal for local or international investors to do business in Haiti.

He assures us that the store and the depot will be rebuilt. The 80 employees of Valerio Canez are still in shock.
