iciHaiti - DR : 29% of Dominican maternity beds are occupied by Haitians 20/04/2021 11:14:23
On Monday, Dominican President Luis Abinader on an official visit to Spain before going to Andorra on Wednesday April 21 at the Ibero-American summit told the Spanish news agency EFE "[...] 29% of Dominican maternity beds are occupied by Haitian women in labor, which contributes to increasing the maternal mortality rate [...] 48% of maternal mortality in the Dominican Republic corresponds to Haitian women, who did not have access to medical consultations before childbirth."
He acknowledged that the problem was the lack of hospitals in Haiti and that this issue had been discussed with his Haitian counterpart, Jovenel Moïse and is included in an agreement comprising 9 bilateral commitments https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-32758-haiti-flash-9-joint-commitments-between-haiti-and-the-dominican-republic.html
