iciHaiti - Agriculture : Moïse multiplies solar-powered water pumping systems
Last weekend, President Jovenel Moïse and Minister of Agriculture Patrix Sévère inaugurated in Tifon, a locality of Port-de-Paix, a solar-powered water pumping system that will replace the old dysfunctional system for over three years. This new system brings the number of systems in this commune to 3.

This solar-powered pumping system will help irrigate around 50 hectares of land, the main crop of which is bananas. According to Minister Sévère, this infrastructure was financed entirely by the Public Treasury and will help increase agricultural production and the income of producers in the area.

In his speech, the Head of State promised to continue this momentum, recalling that in 7 months, this is the 4th system inaugurated in the North West department. He also promised to work on the installation of 33 other solar pumping systems between Gros-Morne and Port-de-Paix.

The idea, explained Moïse, is to make water available to a large fringe of farmers before the end of his term in 2022. This is, according to him, the path to be taken to develop the agricultural sector and create jobs.
