The Office for the Protection of the Citizen (OPC), learned with amazement that the residence of Me Camille Occius, Coordinator of the Organization of Citizens for a New Haiti (OCNH), was the object of armed attacks by unknown unidentified.

The OPC condemns such acts perpetrated against this human rights defender, a personality committed for several years in the defense of human rights in Haiti.

The Office recalls that human rights defenders "must benefit from special protection and be protected from all forms of physical attacks or intimidation, threats and reprisals in the exercise of their activities in under the United Nations Declaration on Human Rights Defenders adopted in December 1998 by the UN General Assembly (Resolution AIRES/53/144).

In this spirit, the State has the imperative obligation to take all the necessary measures aimed at guaranteeing the safety of all the actors involved in the defense of human rights and the Office asks the authorities to take all urgent measures to guarantee the safety of the OCNH Coordinator as well as his family members."
