iciHaiti - Social : 206 Haitian boat-people intercepted off Providenciales

Friday, October 9, following a report by agents of the coastal surveillance radar signaling the presence of a suspicious boat west of Providenciales (an island in the Caicos Islands archipelago), the officers of the maritime branch of M/V Sea Guardian intercepted the boat overloaded with illegal stowaways at around 10:15 p.m.
The 45-foot wooden boat, powered by two 45 HP Yamaha outboard motors had on board 206 migrants of Haitian origin in an irregular migratory situation (145 men, 58 women and 3 minor children 2 girls and a boy)
The M/V Sea Enforcer provided additional support for the towing of the boat to South Dock harbor. During the operation, several Haitian migrants jumped overboard in an attempt to escape, but were quickly recovered by maritime forces.
All the migrants were handed over to immigration officials on Saturday, October 10 for processing and repatriation.
