iciHaiti - DR : Seizure of 11,000 packets of contraband cigarettes

General Pedro Hurtado Cabreja, Commander of the 5th Infantry Brigade based in Jimanì, reported in a statement that members of the Dominican army had intercepted and seized 1,100 cartridges of 10 packs of cigarettes smuggled from Haiti into the municipality of Jimanì (Province of Independencia, western DR).
These cigarettes were transported on the backs of mules which were abandoned with the goods when the smugglers fled to Haiti to escape the military.
The goods were sent to the premises of the Fifth Brigade, whose commander in coordination with the Public Prosecutor's Office opened an investigation in an attempt to find the smugglers, arrest them and bring them to justice.
