iciHaiti - Insurance : Haiti receives US $7,45M from the CCRIF for the damage caused by Laura
The CCRIF SPC (formerly the Catastrophe Caribbean Risk Insurance Facility) paid approximately US $7.2 million to the Government of Haiti under its Parametric Excessive Rainfall (XSR) insurance policy after three days of associated heavy rains associated to Tropical Storm Laura. Haiti also received a payment of $290,925 for comprehensive franchise coverage (ADC).

The approximate total amount of payments to Haiti received because to Laura is $7.45 million, including the ADC, which was released to the government on September 7, 2020

The partial assessment of the damage carried out by the Directorate of Civil Protection and other development partners indicates that Laura and the rains associated with the system have left: 31 dead and 8 others missing; about 44,175 people from 8,835 families were affected; flooding of 6,272 houses, of which 2,320 were damaged and 243 were destroyed; the flooding of Toussaint Louverture International Airport in Port-au-Prince; many roads and bridges damaged, destroyed or blocked; and destruction of agricultural crops and death of livestock.

Following the payment to the Government, the Minister of the Economy and Finance, Michel Patrick Boisvert, declared "the payout of $7.195 million provided by CCRIF to Haiti following the heavy rainfall caused by the passage of Tropical Storm Laura in August will allow us to address current emergencies, notably the implementation of action programmes to rehabilitate affected areas and protect vulnerable social groups."
