iciHaiti - Politic : A Presidential decree converted 141 municipal cartels into «Municipal Commissions»
The mandate of the municipal cartels coming to an end in July 2020, and failing to have been able to hold elections for the replacement of elected officials, President Jovenel Moïse, in the Council of Ministers, issued a decree to convert the municipal cartels into "Municipal Commissions", the elected officials passing from the status of elected to that of civil servants appointed by the power. In Le Moniteur special number N°14 of Tuesday July 7 was published the decrees appointing the new municipal commissions of the 141 communes of the country responsible for managing their interests.

Of the 6 municipal cartels in the metropolitan area, only the mayors of Port-au-Prince and Pétion-ville have been replaced for the moment by the Executive, the others have been renewed in their new status as civil servants appointed by the government.
