iciHaiti - Cité Soleil : 320 young operators certified on industrial sewing machines
The commune of Cité Soleil currently has 320 young operators certified on industrial sewing machines thanks to training provided between November 2019 and January 2020 by "Electra Sewing" as part of the "Creation of decent young and Environmentally Responsible Jobs" Project (CREER) implemented in Haiti by the International Labor Organization (ILO).

These young trainees, who graduated on March 5, benefited from solid training in industrial sewing machines "Single Needle Lockstich", "Overlock" and "Coverstich" as well as other notions on the world of work, including health and safety. Following this training, more than 2/3 have already been hired by several factories in the textile sector at the Metropolitan Industrial Park (SONAPI).

In addition to being a contribution to job creation, this training gives these qualified young people an opportunity to get out of the informal sector and join the formal economic sector. Through the CREER project, the ILO wants to support the efforts made by state actors and social partners to improve the living conditions of the population of sensitive and vulnerable areas.

Note that in addition to vocational training in the fields of textiles and waste management with key job opportunities for the majority of young people, the ILO, through CREER, is also involved in cleaning up the Flamingo and the recycling of waste, raising community awareness and promoting inter-municipal cooperation for better and more united waste management.
