iciHaiti - USA : Essay contest on the importance of democratic values
Description of the objectives of the contest :
To celebrate the independence of the United States (July 4), the Embassy of the United States in Haiti announces a writing competition (sponsored by the United States Department of State) on the importance of democratic values ​​open to Haitian students from 18 to 24 years old living and attending school in Haiti.

In accordance with our long commitment to the promotion of democracy at the global, regional and Haitian levels, students who wish to participate in the competition are invited to comment on the following question:

" What are the essential principles of democracy for Haiti’s future and why ?"

First prize winners will receive an iPad, while books will be given to authors from 6th to 20th place.

Papers must not exceed 500 words and can be submitted in Creole, French or English.

Papers must be submitted no later than : August 17, 2020

Please submit your texts by e-mail to : papamericancenter@state.gov

Please include with your submission your full name, age (do NOT include your date of birth) and add an email address where you can be contacted.

The submitted texts will be evaluated by a jury made up of former participants in exchange programs from the United States Government and staff from the Office of Public Affairs.

Prizes must be picked up by the winner or a representative at the Documentation Center of the United States Embassy in Port-au-Prince (American Center), from October 1 and distributions will no longer be made after January 1 2021.

This competition is only open to Haitian students aged 18 to 24 years living and studying in Haiti. No employee of the United States Government or member of the employee's family may participate in this contest.
