Through intelligence work, members of the Dominican Army (ERD) and S-2 discovered and seized in the community of La Peñita (Province of Dajabón) on the property of an abandoned house a cargo of 126,000 packages "Capital" brand contraband cigarettes in 126 boxes from Haiti
According to the report of the military authorities when the smugglers saw the soldiers at the site where they were preparing the goods for distribution on the national market, they fled through the bushes and the trees to return to Haitian territory.
The commander of the 10th battalion, Colonel Roberto Sosa de la Cruz, said that this operation was part of the measures ordered by the Minister of Defense in the fight against smuggling on the Dominican border with Haiti.
The goods were transferred to the warehouses of the fortress of Beller, seat of the 10th Battalion in Dajabón, to be then delivered to the customs authorities for the purposes of the corresponding law.
