iciHaiti - Security : Seismologist Prépetit concerned about the number of earthquakes in the Great North 02/06/2020 10:25:03
Seismologist engineer Claude Prépetit, Director General of the Bureau of Mines and Energy (BME) says he is very concerned by the number of earthquakes recorded in the great north of Haiti since the beginning of this year saying "This department is the one who was most shaken."
For the month of April for example, we have, through the seismic monitoring network, recorded 64 earthquakes of magnitude ranging from 1.4 to 3.4. More than half were located in the North-West department."
Note that on May 31, 2020 an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.7 on the Richter scale was recorded northeast of Borgne (North Department) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-30906-haiti-flash-earthquake-of-47-in-the-north.html followed within 24 hours by 5 aftershocks https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-30921-haiti-news-zapping.html
Recall that in March, national and regional seismological networks already reported an increase in shakes with 44 earthquakes of magnitudes between 1.2 and 3.4 on the Richter scale, including 12 in the northwest.
