iciHaiti - Health : Towards better medical care for people with disabilities

In order to guarantee access to health care for people with disabilities as stipulated in article 25 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (www.ohchr.org/FR/ProfessionalInterest/Pages/ConventionRightsPersonsWithDisabilities.aspx) and article 19 of the law on the integration of disabled people (Le Moniteur #79 May 21, 2012), Secretary of State Soinette Désir accompanied by a team from the Office of the Secretary of State for the Integration of People Handicapped (BSEIPH), met with Dr Georges-Fils Brignol, Head of the Saint-Georges Clinic, with a view to developing a collaboration between the BSEIPH and the Health Center for the medical care of disabled people.
As part of this partnership, the clinic is committed to providing regular medical care to patients with disabilities. This emerging collaboration proves once again that it is possible that the private sector as well as the public sector get involved alongside the BSEIPH in the fight for the respect of the rights of people with disabilities and for the construction of an inclusive and more fair.
