iciHaiti - 217th of the flag : Message from the mayor of Port-de-Paix
Monday May 18, 217th anniversary of our flag, Josué Alusma, the Mayor of Port-de-Paix delivered a message of circumstance to the compatriots in general and to the Port-de-Paisiens in particular that we invite you to share:

"Dear compatriots

Despite the difficulties we have been going through since March 19 with the appearance of the Covid-19 coronavirus in Haiti, https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-30319-haiti-health-origin-of-the-first-2-cases-of-covid-19-in-haiti.html the country, in particular the department of the North-West faces many difficulties. Inflation, lack of care and hospitals are the main dilemmas in the commune of Port-de-Paix.

The precarious situation in which we live makes us doubt our future within the community. The State, for decades has always been weak, having almost no control over the future of society and the population.

Despite everything, this May 18 must be our symbol of courage and harmony. This date should remind us that without the culture of living together, our country would not today be a proud and independent Nation.

On May 18, 2020, dear compatriots and Port-de-Paisiens, I urge you to express your interest in protecting yourself and helping each other. By reminding you that Dessalines and Pétion have united for a single cause by granting us the Blue and Red as a symbol of fraternal union.

Enjoy this moment of freedom thanks to the boldness of our ancestors. Take example of their courage and dedication in the service of the Nation. Hoist our two-tone, our symbol of pride and protect yourself from the spread of Covid-19 by following the advice of health workers and authorities."
