Claude Joseph, the Minister of Foreign Affairs met this week by videoconference with his Dominican counterpart, Miguel Vargas Maldonado.

Chancellor Joseph took the opportunity to underscore the need for the two countries to work together and step up efforts to counter the spread of the pandemic on the entire Island.

Claude Joseph made a point of exposing to his counterpart three subjects of concern : The realization of the 7th technical session of the Haitian-Dominican mixed commission, the implementation of a mechanism of regular bilateral dialogue and finally the question of student visas Haitians in the Dominican Republic.

Recently healed from Covid-19, Chancellor Maldonado reiterated his country's desire to cooperate with Haiti in the fight against the pandemic. On the three points of concern of Haiti, Maldonado assured of the will of his country to respect the 2014 memorandum of understanding concerning visas for Haitian students, to organize regular exchanges between the scientific committee against the Covid-19 of Haitian side and the High Level Commission against Covid-19 on the Dominican side and finally he promised to discuss in detail several other points during his next meeting with Minister Joseph.
