Monday during his intervention at the Permanent Information Center on the Coronavirus (CIPC), Garnel Michel, Coordinator of "Stop Accident" revealed that the organization had carried out an evaluation work and in order to identify the causes that could facilitate the spread of Covid-19 in Haiti. To do this, the organization made phone calls and held several meetings with different actors and personalities concerned in the management of coronavirus prevention. They also consulted associations of motorcycle taxi drivers, departmental delegates, unions of bus drivers, passengers, and health personnel from the various geographic departments of the country.
These various consultations enabled "Stop Accident" to make the following 6 observations :
- The existence of a real will on the part of the authorities and actors involved to provide a response to Covid-19 in the country.
- Of concerns are observed on the part of the authorities with regard to the major decisions to be adopted.
- A lack of capacity to enforce the measures adopted.
- A great challenge is raised in terms of awareness and training "In reality, a large part of the population does not believe in the existence of coronavirus disease. Several players make decisions and do not understand much about the disease, so we have to do training for the decision-makers," insisted Garnel Michel
- Lack of coordinated assessment;
- Lack of reports regarding financial measures.
Dr Michel recalled that "the drivers are obliged to work daily to earn a living" and according to him, only financial support could allow them to respect confinement.
