iciHaiti - Education : Message from the UNESCO Office in Port-au-Prince
Today, the whole world is confronted with an emergency situation which requires to join all the efforts to face the pandemic of Covid-19 which affects all the sectors, in particular the education sector in a context where currently ond of 5 pupils and one in four students cannot go to their educational institution when other similar decisions are awaited.

In this sense, UNESCO launched a global coalition to accelerate the implementation of distance education. However, in Haiti, UNESCO understands that this exceptional situation requires from the local authorities the adoption of thoughtful and relevant preventive measures, which can reconcile the relative cyclical requirements of the education sector and the rapid evolution of the pandemic.

The UNESCO Office in Port-au-Prince also recognizes that this situation is particularly trying for the cultural sector when cultural activities as much as gatherings are prohibited https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-30311-haiti-flash-president-moise-declares-a-state-of-health-emergency-text-of-the-order.html

In addition, faced with the wave of disinformation observed in particular through certain media, UNESCO believes that the press is more than ever called to give the best of itself while relying on science and a sense of responsibility for transmission of reliable data and official information communicated by the authorities, without neglecting the education of the population.
