iciHaiti - Agriculture : Moïse promises 150 solar pumps for irrigation 30/01/2020 09:07:46
As part of the agricultural revival, Jovenel Moïse promises that more than 15,000 hectares of land will be irrigated in 2020 using 150 pumps powered by solar energy. To purchase this equipment, the Head of State relies on donations from Taiwan (Republic of China) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-28695-haiti-taiwan-donation-of-17-pumping-systems-powered-by-solar-energy.html and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). Taiwan will contribute US $10 million towards the purchase of 80 pumps. The Treasury will acquire 30 pumps. https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-26473-haiti-politique-jovenel-moise-announces-a-series-of-projects-in-gonaives.html
Let's hope that these future pumps are well maintained, which does not always seem to be the case in the field. Recall that at the end of December 2019, as part of the revival of agriculture in Artibonite, the Director of the Departmental Office of the Ministry of Agriculture announced the repair of 6 irrigation pumps while only 8 pumps were functional out of a total of 39 in Artibonite https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-29585-haiti-news-zapping.html
