iciHaiti - Football : Launch of the «Peace and Reconciliation Cup» in difficult neighborhoods
Edwing Charles the Minister of Youth and Sports and Jean Rebel Dorcénat, the President of the National Commission for Disarmament, Dismantling and Reintegration (CNDDR) launched at the beginning of the week a football tournament called "Peace and Reconciliation Cup" putting teams from 32 neighborhoods in the metropolitan area into competition with the aim of promoting peace and solidarity in popular and sensitive neighborhoods which will take place from January 6 to 26, 2020.

"Sport has worked miracles around the world to resolve conflicts and plays an important role in maintaining harmony. Faced with the problems of insecurity, of division which plague our society, it is urgent to unite and sport, vector of social cohesion and Peace can be used to reach the various zones and to pacify them," explained Minister Charles.

Dorcénat welcomed the presence of the delegates of the neighborhoods which he invites to sensitize the young people around the competition and the need to contribute to the pacification of their respective zones. For him, this approach is a stage in the work of the Commission, which combines negotiation, reintegration and dismantling as part of its mission.

Charles and Dorcénat are convinced that this initiative will offer a new image of marginalized neighborhoods and restore confidence to young people in order to avoid harmful behavior for them, for their community and for their country.
