iciHaiti - Security : The number of road deaths increased by 120%
Garnel Michel Coordinator of the Haitian organization Technical and Operational Services to Stop Accidents (STOP-Accidents), informs us in its weekly report that from December 9 to 15, 2019, 38 road accidents on the national territory (+ 23% compared in the previous week) made at least 59 victims (+ 23%) : 11 dead (+ 120%) and 37 injured (-26%) including several seriously. Many accidents involved motorcycles and most of the victims were young people. Lack of lighting on the roads is one of the main causes of accidents recorded during the night, said Michel Garnel.

Bel-Air (Cap-Haïtien), Port-de-Paix, Delmas 89, Laboule 10, Pèlerin 11, Route de Frères, Pèlerin 3, Arcahaie, Camp-Louise, Marigot, Canapé-vert and Lizon, among others, are the main municipalities and areas where these accidents were recorded.

Remember that this weekly assessment was carried out in partnership with the National Ambulance Center (CAN) and the Haitian Red Cross. However, due to a lack of STOP-Accident means, it is unable to monitor the state of health of the injured, some of whom die from their injuries and are not counted.

STOP-Accidents, draws attention to the Pèlerin area (commune of Pétion-ville) where several accidents have been recorded in recent weeks and reiterates its call for caution on our roads while continuing to ask the authorities concerned to take measures to reduce the risk of accidents on public roads.
