iciHaiti - DR : More than 2.2 tons of contraband garlic from Haiti seized on a boat

After a seizure of 3.5 tons of smuggled garlic last June https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-28090-icihaiti-usa-coast-guard-intercepts-35-tons-of-smuggled-garlic-from-haiti.html , the members of the specialized body of land border security (CESFRONT) informed Friday, September 13 that during a joint operation with the Dominican Navy, a smuggler ship carrying more than 2,2 tons of garlic from Haiti had been intercepted in the Montecristi Province.
The garlic was in 223 bags of about 22 pounds, which were landed at "Esterobalsa Beach" in the municipality of "Pepillo Salcedo" (Manzanillo). Two men Agustín Eladio Abreu and Joanny Cruz were arrested on board the boat which was also seized.
The smuggling of garlic from Haiti is very active.
