iciHaiti - Music : 64th anniversary of «Konpa-Dirèk»

Friday, July 26, Day of the "Konpa-Dirèk" (Compas Direct), Jean Michel Lapin, the Minister of Culture reminds every Haitian, of the importance of our culture and our heritage "64 years ago, the Maestro Nemours Jean Baptiste had to present on the place Ste Anne, his musical formation. He was that day, accompanied by Raymond Gaspard and Richard Duroseau. This band, by modifying the Haitian meringue, gave birth to the "Konpa-Dirèk".
It is with a sense of pride that I see that there is today a real devotion to the place of this intangible cultural heritage that is our national compass [...] Our culture is our true wealth, our identity as a people.
Sixty-four years ago, Nemours Jean Baptiste took the first step. It is up to us now to frame the 'Konpa-Dirèk', to value it so that it has a truly national and international dimension.
My tributes to musicians, promoters, artists... in a word, to all the cultural actors who keep the flame of the Compass still lit.
