iciHaiti - Social : Arrests in Guatemala of 30 Haitians
The Guatemalan Ministry of the Interior reports that individuals in an irregular migration situation were located by officers of the "Policía Nacional Civil" while traveling as passengers in buses to Mexico...

In a first bus intercepted at kilometer 41 of the Atlantic Highway (Dept. El Progreso) security forces arrested 41 people, 24 Cubans, 15 Haitians, a Salvadoran and a Honduran.

In a second bus intercepted at km 145 of the Inter-American Highway (Dept. Zacapa) 15 illegal Haitians were arrested.

All arrested migrants were transferred to a shelter managed by the Guatemalan Migration Institute.

These two groups of migrants, according to the testimonies collected, intended to go to the Mexican territory with the ultimate goal of the United States. Due to its geographical position, Guatemala serves as a gateway for human trafficking to the United States and since last year, several caravans of migrants have crossed to this end Guatemala.

Recall that the Guatemalan Government has recently signed an agreement with the US Department of Homeland Security to fight against irregular migration bilaterally under threat of sanctions...

Officers from the Ports, Airports and Police Border Posts Division announced that they were permanently keeping agents in strategic locations to ensure that all foreigners had the necessary documents to travel within Guatemala.
