iciHaiti - Insecurity : Gunshots near the US Embassy 30/04/2019 09:32:26
On Monday, gunfire was fired near the back entrance of the US Embassy in Port-au-Prince, forcing personnel into the building.
Following this incident, the US State Department posted on its twitter account an alert to US citizens present in Haiti "Gunfire coming from the rear entrance to the Embassy. Shelter in place is in effect for the Embassy compound. If you are traveling to the Embassy, find a safe area to shelter in place."
Since then, neither the State Department nor the Embassy has provided further details on the origin of these shots.
Recall that the State Department ordered on February 12 all children of US embassy US diplomatic personnel to leave the territory, as well as non-essential US personnel and adult members of families of this staff to leave Haiti https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-26920-haiti-flash-6th-day-of-paralysis-the-country-sinks-into-chaos.html . Two days later Washington had recalled all its non-essential diplomats and urged US citizens not to travel to Haiti raising its level of alert to the maximum level, level still in effect at date https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-26948-haiti-flash-usa-raises-to-maximum-travel-advisory-levels-for-haiti.html
