iciHaiti - DR : More than 9,000 Haitians deported or turned back to the borders in February 2019

According to the Directorate General of Migration (DGM), during the month of February 2019, on the order of the Director of the institution, the Lieutenant General, Máximo William Muñoz Delgado and following the investigations of the intelligence services associated with the complaints of the population, dozens of migration control operations were conducted in different provinces of the country.
4,894 Haitians were controlled in an irregular migratory situation on the Dominican territory and taken back to the border posts of Dajabón, Jimaní and Elías Piña to be registered and deported to Haiti.
In addition, nearly 100 foreign nationals from Algeria, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, the United States and Puerto Rico were also screened in irregular migration situations and the deportation process was engaged in cooperation with their respective embassies.
During the same period, 4,400 Haitians were turned back at the border while attempting to enter the Dominican territory illegally.
