iciHaiti - History : For the first time, «Vertières» enters a French dictionary
Quebec writer and screenwriter, of Haitian origin, Academician Dany Laferrière, Member of the Commission of the Dictionary of the French Academy who presented with Laurent Catach, on RFI's "De Vives voix" the 9th edition of the Dictionary of the French Academy went digital, proudly announced "I brought Vertières into a French dictionary for the first time".

Indeed it is a great first since until now, Vertière struck with the seal of oblivion, symbol of the fight of the slaves and the liberation of the blacks did not appear until now in any French dictionary and is not no longer recounted in the French history textbooks, defeated France, worked to erase the traces of its defeat in this famous battle against slavery, colonialism and segregationism.

Remember that it is in Vertiere, located near Cap-Haïtien, that took place, on November 18, 1803, the great battle between the French Napoleonic troops commanded by Rochambeau and those of General Jean-Jacques Dessalines. This was the last battle of the expedition of Santo Domingo, following which, on January 1, 1804, was born the first black republic of the world : Haiti.
