iciHaiti - Bahamas : The Embassy of Haiti wants to solve the madness of boat-people
During the funeral service of 28 dead Haitians drowned in the sinking of the boat after hitting a reef, 6 miles off the Abaco Islands north of the Bahamas archipelago, on February 2, https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-26849-haiti-social-bahamas-shipwreck-last-balance-19-survivors-and-28-deaths.html the charge d'affaires ai François Michel of the Embassy of Haiti in the Bahamas said that the governments of Haiti and the Commonwealth of the Bahamas should continue to work together to stop illegal immigration "Solidarity between the two countries must continue to grow stronger [...] We must deal with the clandestine immigration situation and it is in the dialogue with the authorities that we will find the solution to this madness."

Michel recalled the visit of Prime Minister Hubert Minnis to Haiti last year, during which he met with President Jovenel Moise, to discuss illegal migration and trade opportunities between the two countries recalling "Haiti and the Bahamas are two countries that have come together to work together and live together but also face the difficulties they are confronted [...] the trafficking of jobs... the illegal trafficking of firearms and human beings, drug trafficking and transnational crime... For this reason, these two governments must continue to work together."
