iciHaiti - DR : Seizure of 4760 packets of contraband cigarettes in Jimani

The Public Prosecutor's Office, members of the specialized Land Border Security Corps (CESFRONT) and staff of the J-2 Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff seized 476 cartridges of 10 cigarettes packets smuggled from Haiti of different brands including Haitian cigarettes "Comme il faut" as well as 2 motorcycles, in the border municipality of Jimani, in the province of Independencia (South-West of the Dominican Republic).

The goods were seized in a lawful search in a residence in the city of Jimani, whose owner managed to escape.

An arrest warrant has been issued against the owner for alleged involvement in illicit activities related to smuggling in violation of the General Customs Law No. 34-89.

The owner and several suspects are currently actively sought
