iciHaiti - Social: Michele Pierre-Louis receives the civilian decoration of Officer of the Order of Léopold 15/06/2018 09:01:50 "Belgium has decided to award this distinction to Mrs. Pierre-Louis for her exemplary contribution to the development of Haiti, particularly in the field of culture, education, the strengthening of civil society, and women rights," said Ambassador Van Gheel at the presentation of the medal and the official certificate. "I am very moved and surprised to receive this honor from Belgium, in the presence of my family and my colleagues from FOKAL. It is with joy that I learned that the Belgian Embassy had proposed my name to the King of the Belgians for this high distinction," responded for her part Mrs. Pierre-Louis after the ceremony. "If I receive this decoration it's a lot thanks to you and our collective work," she said to her FOKAL staff, in a correspondence announcing the news Monday afternoon. Pierre-Louis is the President of FOKAL, an important partner of the Wallonia-Brussels International (WBI) cooperation in Haiti. She was also Prime Minister of Haiti between 2008 and 2009, and was recognized for her efforts during the reconstruction after the 2010 earthquake. Let's remember that the Order of Léopold is the highest distinction of Belgium. Established in 1832, it owes its name to King Léopold I, is awarded for outstanding merits and extends in all areas. The Order of Léopold has five classes namely Knight, Officer, Commander, Grand Officer and Grand cordon. S/ iciHaiti
