iciHaiti - Environment : Return of the Season of the Tree 17/04/2018 10:31:55 Recall that before 1990 in Haiti, the festival of the tree was celebrated annually the last Friday of May. This holiday was part of the Tree Season that ran from April 15 to the last Friday in May across the country through reforestation activities. This festival, which usually celebrates the arrival of spring and nature, is practiced in many countries. It is also often an opportunity for public authorities to raise awareness by inviting them to plant a tree in order to limit the effects of desertification. Note that the tree festival was initiated by J. Sterling Morton, then Secretary of State for Agriculture of the United States and Robert Furnas who decided to plant trees on April 10, 1872 in Nebraska City. IH/ iciHaiti
