iciHaiti - Social : Fight against Child Domestic Work in Haiti 09/04/2018 08:08:44
Protection actors met last week to discuss the "Fight against Child Domestic Work in Haiti" project implemented by UNICEF and funded by Canada.
This project aims to reduce the exposure of girls and boys to the worst forms of work, especially to exploitation through domestic work (Restavek, ± 3% of children in Haiti), through holistic protection and strengthening of the child labor system. In addition, it aims to improve access to education for vulnerable children, promote gender equality and strengthen the economic capacities of vulnerable households, especially those headed by women.
Canada working with UNICEF in Haiti and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor (MAST) to protect children and especially girls in order to uphold their human rights, stressed that it is essential that all protection actors continue to work together to reduce the exploitation of vulnerable children in Haiti, recalling that child abuse, exploitation, trafficking and all forms of violence of which children are the main victims have long-term health impacts and economic and social consequences for the country.
