iciHaiti - Environment : The ONEV a scientific monitoring network of natural hazards 26/02/2018 07:27:03 During his speech, Bélizaire explained that the mission of ONEV was to set up a national institutional and technical structure for the production, analysis and dissemination of environmental information necessary for decision-making and prospective reflections aimed at stimulating the exchange of information, the production of data and scientific analyzes between institutions, for a rational management of the environment in general and a monitoring of the vulnerability to natural hazards in Haiti in particular. This important structure is spread over 3 axes:
In terms of the achievements of the ONEV, Belizaire reported on the one hand that with partners 6 seismological stations have already been installed across the country, particularly one station in the North, one in the Center, 2 in the department of West, one in the Southeast and one in the South adding that preparations are underway to install two more stations in Grand'Anse and North-wEST. On the other hand he indicated that the ONEV was still installing in collaboration with partners, 6 seismometers (detector of the movements of the soil which comprises a mechanical sensor, an amplifier and a recorder) which will make it possible to have a better understanding of seismic risk and its evolution. In addition, 5 hydro-meteorological stations are being installed also in the departments of West, South, North-West, North-East and Grand'Anse in order to ensure the monitoring of the pluviometry and the quality control of some rivers and the quality of the environment.
