Yoshiaki Hatta, the Japanese Ambassador to Haiti has signed a grant agreement with the Japanese NGO "Peace Winds Japan", relating to the project "Strengthening the communal resilience capacity during natural disasters at the Municipality of Saint Jean du Sud" as part of the non-repayable financial assistance in partnership with Japanese NGOs.

Given the damage caused by Hurricane Matthew in 2016, especially in the southern region of Haiti, this project aims to strengthen local risk management capabilities through technical training on construction methods of hurricane-resistant buildings as well as that the sensitization of the inhabitants in the Commune, on the preparation and the adequate reaction during major natural hazards.

The project plans to transmit the techniques and lessons learned from Japan's many experiences in this field, through the NGO "Peace Winds Japan" which has a rich experience in the implementation of Risk Management projects in Japan and in several foreign countries.
