iciHaiti - Politic : Advocacy for a Haitian diplomacy at the service of the Nation
The speaker Me Richadson Louius, expert in International Relations and Director of the Haitian Center for International Relations for Development (CHRID), during a lecture given at the School of Diplomacy and International Relations of the University Catolica Santo Domingo, on the theme "The Current Foreign Policy of the Republic of Haiti", appealed for Haiti to regain its place on the international scene.

After retracing the great conquests of Haitian diplomacy, in front of an audience of students in diplomacy and international relations, professors and executives as well as personality such as Edwin Paraison Executive Director of the Zile Foundation and former Haitian Minister of Diaspora and Economist Anthony Brice, Me Louius deplored the bad decisions made during the last three decades.

For him, the politicization of the staff of our diplomatic and consular representations did not allow the latter to represent the interests of the Haitian state. Recalling that despite a large number of quality Haitian products, these are almost absent from the international market, pointing to the lack of responsibility of Haitian diplomacy, citing as an example the trade imbalance with our Dominican neighbor

In addition, he recalled that diplomacy, given the codification of international law, is an essentially technical profession and any State must comply with this requirement if it wishes to benefit from its relations with its peers in an increasingly international market, globalized and competitive.

Pleading for the restoration of Haitian diplomacy, he stressed that if Haiti undertakes to professionalize its diplomatic and consular representatives and defines an external policy that meets the interests of the Nation and its nationals, Haitian diplomacy could be a key tool in his quest for development.
