iciHaiti - Politics : Millions of euros of German cooperation 06/10/2017 09:05:01 In addition, four German NGOs (German Agro-Action, German Red Cross, Handicap International and Caritas) received $ 7.4 million in 2017 for long-term projects in the Northern Department of Haiti. Also this year the German Embassy, in partnership with local authorities, financed micro-projects for nearly $250,000. Christiane Delfs, Director of the German Development Cooperation Agency (GIZ) [Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit], established in Haiti for more than 4 years, reported that GIZ was working on 4 major projects: 1 - An integrated management project for the transboundary catchment area of the Libon River funded to the tune of €7 900 000 (2011 to 2017). 2 - A technical assistance program financed to the tune of € 5.2 million aims at strengthening the capacity of civil society and public sector actors to take responsibility in the areas of resource protection, sustainable rural development and local governance (2012 to 2018). 3 - Project to increase the capacity of adaptation financed to the tune of € 4 million in the border biosphere reserves between Haiti and the Dominican Republic (2014 to 2018). 4 - Improved living conditions project financed to the tune of € 4.8 million in vulnerable communes suffering from seasonal water shortages in South-East Haiti (2016 to 2018). For its part, the German Red Cross is working on three projects in Haiti: 1 - Climate change adaptation project of 900,000 euros, in 11 communes of the Nippes department (2015 to 2017); 2 - Integrated food security program in Arcahaie funded at 1.9 million (2016 to 2019); 3 - Project to strengthen community resilience in Ouanaminthe funded to 1.8 million euros (2017 to 2021).
